TRACK , FIELD: Rogers named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Orville Rogers has been named USATF's Athlete of the Week after setting a world and American record in the M90 800 meters Sunday at the 2008 USA Masters Indoor Track , Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass. Rogers, a 90-year-old youngster from Dallas, set a world and American record with his time of 4 minutes 19.97 seconds in the M90 800 meters. It demolished the previous world record of 4:50.81 run by Bob Matteson one year ago at this meet. On Saturday, Rogers ran 9:56.58 in the mile. Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
